Tsunami threat and Evacuation of tourists and residents in Hawaii

Waves might reach as high as up to 8 feet in some bays. Navy is active in protecting their ships at Pearl Harbour.

Seattle reported that Hawaiian authorities remained busy in evacuating 100,000 residents and tourists from low lying coastal areas on Saturday morning. As an estimated 3-8 feet high tsunami waves raced at a speed of jet plane towards the islands.
Sirens sounded in the early morning and civil defense was high alerts. Hours before the arrival of the waves Chile was triggered by a massive earthquake.
"We are taking this very seriously. We have activated, and we think this is a real emergency," said Jane Lovell, spokeswoman for the civil defense agency on the island of Maui.
Two hours before the expected arrival of tsunami, Gov. Linda Lingle signed an emergency disaster proclamation, and said she was preparing to take a National Guard helicopter to survey any damage.
She said, “My overall impression is that the state is well-prepared”
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued, Hawaii was expected to be among the hardest hit.
Just before half an before the tsunami was forced to hit, Waikiki Beach in Hawaii was presenting the scene of fear and disaster.
Four warship fleets were sent by US Navy along with three other support and research vessels steaming out to sea as a precaution against damage near shore at Pearl Harbour.
"Even though we don't anticipate high surge waves here, we don't know for sure, so we're just going to take precautionary measures," Breslau said.
"Now it's just a matter of watching and waiting," Breslau said.
In White House president Obama warned the residents of the West Coast to be watchful and prepared for dangerous waves and currents.
